Induction & Onboarding
Induction done as a record, not a conversation: the hazards, the rules, the emergency, the PPE and the sign-off — for the contractor at the gate and the starter in the first week.

The induction templates are the documents for the onboarding: the contractor induction checklist and form for the people coming in from outside, the workplace induction checklist for the new employee, and the WHS induction checklist for the Australian and international practice. Each one is the induction as a record, with the site-specific hazards, the emergency, the PPE, and the sign-off. The induction is the communication at the start, and the template is the document that makes the induction a record, and the record the evidence.
Which induction for which person: the contractor induction checklist is the walk-through at the gate, the site-specific hazards and the emergency, fifteen minutes. The contractor induction form is the acknowledgement and the sign-off, the record for the file. The workplace induction checklist is the new employee, the company policy, the welfare, and the role-specific hazards. And the WHS induction checklist is the Australian and international version, with the worker rights section. The four are the onboarding, in the forms the person needs. The rhythm is the point: the contractor gets the site-specific induction at the gate, before the first step on site, and the record is the card that gates the access. The starter gets the workplace induction in the first week, the policy, the site, the role, and the sign-off the HR file carries. The WHS version adds the worker-rights section, the right to raise a concern, to refuse the dangerous work, to be consulted, that the Australian Act expects the inductor to cover. The induction without the record is a conversation, and the record is what makes it a duty discharged: the name, the date, the inductor, the signature, the file reference.
Every template in this category works the same way: fill it in in your browser, add or remove the lines the job needs, print it as a signed, dated document or export the rows to CSV. Nothing is uploaded and there is no account. The professional version — the sign-off, the audit, the training — runs through umer-hse.pro.
The induction is the duty in Section 2(4) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 — the information, the instruction and the training that the worker needs before the work starts — and the structure that holds is the three layers. The site induction covers the whole place: the hazards of the site, the emergency, the assembly, the rules that are site-wide. The trade induction covers the work: the method, the controls, the PPE, the interface with the other trades. The task induction covers the day: the specific job, the specific risk, the specific control. The layer that is skipped is the one that fails — the worker who knows the site but not the task, or the task but not the site.
The OSHA side reaches the same place through the effective-training requirement — the training in the language and the literacy of the worker, on the hazard before the exposure, and the record that proves it happened. The UK test is the same: the induction that is a signature on a form is the induction that is not an induction, and the record that holds is the content, the trainer, the date and the worker — the four that prove the information moved.
The templates in this section are the working records: the site induction pack with the hazard list and the emergency, the trade induction sheet, the task briefing that runs the toolbox, and the induction register that keeps the four dates in one place. Each one is printable and editable, and the refresher — the one that runs on the change of work, not the anniversary — is built into the register. For the structured induction program for the new site, the professional work runs through umer-hse.pro.

These templates are practical documents, built to the UK baseline with the US equivalents named on each page. They do not replace a competent person assessment for high-risk work, a statutory assessment, or the advice of your insurer. Where a document has legal force — the fire risk assessment, the COSHH register, the permit to work — the responsible person owns it. Use the template as the preparation, and the competent person as the sign-off.
